- Fresh Classics: Motivating Students while Finding Meaning
Some refreshing classics that also motivate students will be presented along with teaching suggestions that can be applied to much of the classical teaching literature. A focus is on teaching to find the meaning in the music for both student and audience. - Video Performances: The Intermediate Student as Transfer
This session is presented with the aid of a video presentation of piano students performing. Student performances discussed exhibit typical (but not-so-easy to fix) technical problems and musical problems. Potential solutions and ramifications of the problems will also be discussed.
Lillian Harder, Guest speaker
- Backstage Drama: The Trials and Tribulations of an Arts Presenter
Professor Harder, artistic director of the Brooks Center of the Performing Arts at Clemson University, will share humorous anecdotes of her experiences as an arts presenter. She will give the “inside scoop” and behind-the-scenes perspective of her unpredictable, but always entertaining, dealings with demanding patrons, difficult guest artists, and unanticipated situations.
Dylan Savage, Guest clinician
- Wellness for Musicians
In this session many pertinent aspects of wellness as they apply to teaching and performance will be discussed. These include the following: anatomy, biomechanics, motion and efficiency, tension, ranges of motion, choreography of movement, personal assessment strategy, etc. This workshop is designed for all musicians, not just pianists.
