REGULATIONS AND PROCEDURES FOR DISTRICT AND STATE AUDITIONS
- Pre-college students are eligible to enter solo, concerto, or a combination of both of these categories.
- Fees:
- District -- Solo: $15.00 -- Concerto: $15.00
- State -- Solo: $15.00 -- Concerto: $15.00
- Performances at District and State Auditions will be judged on the following:
- Accuracy of notes, time values, and rests
- Rhythm - control of basic tempo, flexibility
- Tone quality
- Technique - clarity and fluency
- Phrasing - slurs as applied to motifs and phrases; projection of melodic line
- Artistic use of the pedals
- Interpretation - appropriate style, balance between melody and accompaniment, structural design, clarity or polyphonic nuance, climax imagination.
- Only those who earn the Outstanding rating at the District level are eligible to participate in the State Auditions. The rating sheets will be mailed to the teachers after the completion of the auditions.
- The student must show proficiency in approximately 75% of the theory at the District Audition or his/her overall rating will be lowered one grade.
- State Auditions are to be held in early spring, 3-5 weeks after the District Auditions.
- At the State Auditions, Outstanding students in both Solo and Concerto categories from Divisions I, II, III and lV will be chosen by the judges to perform on an Honors Recital. Participants will be notified by the Pre-College State Audition Chairperson and given a time limit for their performance on this recital.
